Before Vanessa takes off and enters stardom, learn more about this incredible woman.

At what point did you get interested in modeling?

Vanessa May Bauer: I’ve always been interested in the business, but honestly it’s not something I chased. The reality is, modeling got interested in me.

When you started to model, did you have a plan in mind in terms of what you wanted to achieve and the type of model that you wanted to be?

Vanessa May Bauer: I started modeling about 14 months ago. I think what I’d like to achieve is to empower others. Beauty and success is not just for young girls. Your greatest weapon is believing in yourself.

What was your first photo shoot experience like? Were you excited, nervous, etc?

Vanessa May Bauer: My first photo shoot was fantastic. I didn’t realize how this would end up taking off, so I didn’t quite know the impact of that day. In hindsight it was a blessing I would’ve been nervous. I found it to be very exciting and felt extremely comfortable in front of the camera.

Did you receive any advice or were guided in any way when you started to model, or were you more spontaneous?

Vanessa May Bauer:

Did I have any guidance?

Not really. I was lucky enough to work with some very talented photographers early on who were kind enough to give me some pointers but my guidance was slim. I have soaked up all the information I can when spending time with photographers and other models.  Everybody’s experience has been helpful information. And I have found the majority of the people I meet in this profession to be very kind and helpful.

What’s most important to you when it comes to your modeling career?

Vanessa May Bauer: The most important thing I remember in my modeling career is be humble and be thankful for the opportunity. Experiences and opportunities come and go throughout our lives.  I want to enjoy every minute of this.  I don’t forget that I’m fortunate and most people don’t get chances like this in life. I take every photo shoot serious, as if it was my first.

How important is social media to you and your modeling, and what sets you apart from other models that are on social media?

Vanessa May Bauer: Social media is extremely important in my modeling career, in fact that is how most of my potential jobs find me. It can be a bit overwhelming at times and requires quite a bit of work however it is a very convenient way to advertise and makes it very easy for people to connect with you.

Right now, what are your top goals that you want to accomplish in the near future with your modeling?

Vanessa May Bauer:

The top goal I would like to achieve in my modeling career?

I truly just enjoy the process, however I would feel very accomplished if I got signed on with a well-known lingerie company.

What goes into your decision making process when you say yes or no pertaining to your modeling career?

Vanessa May Bauer: Safety is the most important thing to me when I’m deciding to say yes or no to a potential job. I research, research, research. I look at the work of the photographer or company I will potentially be working for. I decide if their work is something I would allow my name to be attached to. I often reach out to other models or friends in the business to see how their experience has been, prior to agreeing or signing contracts. Quite a bit of work goes into the process but in my experience, that is definitely the first step in agreeing to a job.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Vanessa May Bauer: A typical day for me would start with hitting the snooze one too many times, doing a short lower body workout. Then  having a cup of coffee while going through my messages responding to potential jobs, upcoming model chats and posting on social media to keep the consistency of the jobs coming. Then depending on the day I would prepare for my day. I have two children and another career. Organization is key.

Besides modeling, what do you enjoy doing?

Vanessa May Bauer: Besides modeling I enjoy ballroom dancing, playing the guitar, cooking and get-togethers with Family and friends. My favorite days are the days  I get to spend on the water with music and the people I love.

What is an unusual habit or an absurd thing that you love?

Vanessa May Bauer: I can’t think of any unusual habits or absurd things that I love. I think I’m pretty normal. I even reached out to my people on this question.  The responses I got were, I’m obsessed with my cat, and never can stay awake through movie.

When you’re faced with criticism or negativity (online and off), how do you deal with it?

Vanessa May Bauer: Unfortunately, I have had more than my fair share of negativity and criticism. Typically the way I handle it is I remember when somebody is mean to me, it really has nothing to do with me.  It has everything to do with them. I usually don’t respond but if I decide to, I respond from a place of self-worth and confidence coupled with kindness and understanding. Hurt people, try and hurt people. One of the things that has made me successful in my modeling career is, I no longer get my self-worth from other people’s opinion of me. I know who I am and I’m OK with who I am. If ever I come to a place that I am not happy with who I’m becoming, I change my course. We get one life and I won’t  be living it with regrets.

What do you wish that more people could understand about models and the industry as whole?

Vanessa May Bauer: I wish that people would understand that models, and everyone in the industry are all just people. We have good days we have bad days and it takes a lot of work to do what we’re doing. The end result is usually something very glamorous however the process is anything but glamorous. t’s quick wardrobe changes outside or in cars, it’s make up touch ups in a rear view mirror. It is also bougie hotels, travel and nice restaurants. It’s layovers and small airplane seats. It’s time spent away from your family. It’s nights with little sleep and the expectation to be bright eyed and bushy tailed despite your lack of sleep. It’s photo shoots In 65° water all while you have to look like you’re having a great time.  however it is also admiration, recognition and an extreme amount of compliments from people you don’t even know. I guess the best way to describe it is extremes. On one end you get a crazy amount of criticism and you’re putting in a lot of hard work. On the other end you get the opportunity to be recognized as something exceptional. Just like everything else in life, With positive, comes equal negative.

When people see or hear about you, what do you want them to think about you?

Vanessa May Bauer: When people see or hear about me what I would love is for them to say is, I’m just as beautiful on the inside as I am on the outside.  we all know that that’s where true beauty radiates from.

What can people expect to see from you in the future?

Vanessa May Bauer: What people can expect to see from me in the future is… A lot more. Like I said this is a new career to me. Ready or not here I come.
